Meet Your New Clinical Director

I would like to introduce Shelly Parkman, the new Clinical Program Director for Valley Hope of Moundridge. Shelly has a big heart, compassion, and dedication to our staff and patients alike. She is very passionate about helping people in recovery and meets them wherever they are on their journey. Shelly started her career with Valley Hope in 2004. She came to Moundridge after serving as Program Director in Cushing, Oklahoma. She held several positions including Utilization and Review, Counselor and Assistant Program Director.

Shelly graduated from Emporia State University with a Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in Mental Health. When asked what she loves about Valley Hope, she said she likes working with the patients and the closeness of the staff. Shelly’s goal is to help those suffering and promote staff teamwork. “The more patients we serve the more we are saving lives and restoring families.”

In Shelly’s spare time, she enjoys reading, gardening and spending time with her grandkids. She said, “Grandkids are my first and foremost hobby.” We are beyond blessed to have Shelly on the Valley Hope team. Her warm smile and love for helping people makes everything brighter!

Fun at the Summer Soirée!

On Saturday, June 29th over 73 alumni, family and friends joined the patient group for our Summer Soirée. The fun started out with speaker Kim P. of Winfield. The lecture hall was standing room only as she shared her story of strength and hope.

Outdoors there was a great mix of fun activities: horse shoes, sand volleyball, bubbles, washers and corn hole. There was a big line for the dunk tank, where our very own Executive Director, Clayton, volunteered and succumbed to many dunkings. Also under fire were Tammy, the Director of Nursing and Sierra, one of the counselors.

Folks bought raffle tickets for three baskets that several departments assembled from donated items. $489 was raised to assist patients with things like sober living deposits, personal items, dental visits and treatment-related books.

Later we regrouped in the lecture hall where we did the Cup/Medallion Ceremony and a sobriety countdown that ranged from 30 years to 2 days. A birthday cake was presented and the candles were lit to celebrate those with sobriety birthdays.

We enjoyed fellowship with a BBQ. The kitchen staff did a wonderful job of fixing and producing quite a spread. Staff, friends, family and current patient group all joined together to celebrate recovery!
