Alumni Group, Larry W. & Terry K.

I would like to introduce two of our Alumni core group members, Larry W. and Terry K.! Terry’s connection with Valley Hope started in 2003. When her father passed away, she basically lost all hope and had went back to using. Right after her treatment at Valley Hope of Atchison she joined the alumni group. In the past 10 years it has been a priority in her recovery. She became treasurer of the group and started coming to the facility almost every week! Terry continues to stay sober by attending meetings, having a sponsor, working the steps and being involved in service work.

Larry also checked into Valley Hope broken and hopeless not knowing it would forever change his life. Larry has been addicted since he was 14 and experienced most of the problems that come along with it. He tried to get sober many times but it wasn’t until he attended Valley Hope of Atchison at age 52 that his life was forever changed. He has been sober since November 17, 2016. Upon discharge Larry started attending the alumni group, and he has been the secretary since November 2017. His favorite part about the group is simply being with the people.

The alumni group sells tee-shirts, cups, lanyards and hats to benefit the current patient group. The alumni group hopes to give back what was so freely given to them. They want to show others that you can live sober!

Our alumni meet every 3rd Friday at 9AM in the dining hall in Atchison.

Bowling Event

Northeast Kansas Hope Builder Club strikes again!

Sunday, May 19th alumni, family, and friends gathered for bowling at AMF Pro Bowl Lanes in north Kansas City. Fifteen of us enjoyed two hours of strikes, gutter balls, laughs and fellowship.

To see the pure joy on everyone’s faces as they snacked on nachos and cheesy garlic dippers was priceless. You can’t put a price on what sobriety does for your life and the loved ones around you.

Bowling truly showed how fun recovery can be! As the day came to an end new friends were made, laughs were shared, and the look on the kids faces as they enjoyed time with their loved ones is one of the main reasons I love my job!
