Your Atchison Chaplain, Lisa Phillips

For more than 23 years we have been blessed to have Chaplain Lisa as part of the Valley Hope team. Not only is Lisa one amazing chaplain, she is also a fighter!! In 2007 she was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. She went through chemo, surgeries and radiation that worked until 2017 when metastatic breast cancer appeared. This past year has been a rollercoaster and her fight continues but Lisa is a FIGHTER and a SURVIVOR!

Not only does Lisa have a lot of love to share, she also has a lot of knowledge. She has a degree in Substance Abuse Counseling and is an Ordained Minister. She has been in recovery since 1985.
Through the years, Lisa has served as: Primary Counselor, Admission Coordinator, Senior Counselor and Family Counselor. She’s been Chaplain for 2 years, 10 months and 28 days, but who is counting, right? Lisa said her favorite thing about working for Valley Hope is when alumni come for renewal day and they celebrate their birthdays. She said, “I love that we can get through tough times together because we love each other, and we are family.”

Did Someone Say BBQ?

Friday, June 28th alumni, family and friends gathered to share their experience, strength and hope with the current patients at Valley Hope of Overland Park outpatient office.

Over 40 alumni piled in the lecture hall to share their recovery experience with the current patients, while 4-5 alumni stayed outside cooking brats and hot dogs.
As we got the BBQ kicked off, it was a joy watching everyone come in the door bringing side dishes and wearing huge smiles on their faces. It’s one of the
main reasons I love my job.

The highlight of the night was seeing everyone getting their bellies full, sharing laughs, exchanging phone numbers and creating memories with new friends in recovery!

As the sun went down and we all parted ways I couldn’t help but feel so joyful inside seeing everyone happy, smiling and sober. Recovery is fun and possible. I hope to see everyone next time!
