Hope Builder: Patt U.

I have the pleasure of spotlighting Pat U. who is not only an alumnus of Valley Hope of Chandler and Tempe; but also functions as your Special Events Chairman for the Hope Builder Board. The Hope Builder Board is a group of volunteers whose purpose is fundraising and alumni development. Pat’s passion for fundraising roots back to his Valley Hope experiences. It all started when he “did things backwards” and started his recovery journey in the outpatient Tempe facility in May 2013. Pat then went to the Chandler residential continuum in August 2013. He wished he could have stayed at Valley Hope of Chandler longer, but his insurance ran out.

Consequently, Pat’s favorite thing about being on the board is getting to help patients that want to stay in treatment longer with fundraising efforts.

Pat shares his excitement at watching first hand as the new Hope Builder Club program blossomed. “The Hope Builder Club is great, we didn’t have that before. Ever since this program came about, the Tempe alumni meeting has grown and has support. A lot of people didn’t know it even existed.” We are grateful to have such an active alumnus, Hope Builder Board member, and Hope Builder Club member helping us spread the message of hope.

Bowling Event

Imagine everyone’s excitement as 40 alumni, friends and family members showed up at the AMF Chandler lanes to enjoy bowling together. It was an amazing turnout!

On Saturday, June 15, 2019 I had the opportunity to coordinate and host a Hope Builder Club bowling event. With the help of my trusty sidekick, Mel Windsor, the Outreach Manger for both Arizona continuums, we were able to collect everyone’s payment in a timely manner to start the event.

One great benefit of joining the Hope Builder Club is receiving event discounts. At bowling, members only paid $7.00 while non-members paid $10.00. It’s an amazing price as that included two hours of bowling, pizza, and shoes! With area business and Valley Hope’s support we are making these events fun and affordable so everyone can participate.

What a fantastic time everyone experienced! All who participated should give yourselves a pat on the back for making this event our best turnout yet. The energy in the room was so positive, and all I could see was smiles and lots of laughter. I had the opportunity to walk around and chat with everyone, and my old service-industry habits came back as I went around checking to see if anyone needed anything like food or drinks. I received so many compliments on the event and many people were thanking me, but really the thanks go to all of you who made this such a fantastic turn out! Let’s make the next activity even bigger and better! Stay tuned.
