Your Clinical Director, Cheryl Hawley

Support for the Hope Builder Club exudes from Cheryl Hawley. She stated: “The Hope Builder Club is supporting patients when they discharge. I believe it will improve sobriety rates. Having an Alumni Coordinator on campus is a huge asset in keeping people connected. The club helps people learn and experience sober fun and healthy relationships.”

Cheryl’s job duties as the Program Director entail: overseeing counseling staff, chaplains, and the admission team. She is also responsible for coordinating with all departments, administration duties, and keeping a pulse on the center so she is informed about what’s happening on campus.

Her favorite aspect of her job is seeing patients come in broken, hopeless and hurting, and after working with staff, watching them start to heal.

Cheryl said, “It’s a transformation that takes place from day 1, and we are really helping people. Patient welfare is my top priority. It’s so important. I have compassion for this clientele. Addiction is my passion and I’ve never wanted to do anything else.”

Cheryl’s certifications include LISAC, CSAC, MAC, CADAC.

Freedom From Addiction: 4th of July Celebration!

On July 4th our Hope Builder Board hosted a Freedom from Addiction BBQ for patients, alumni, family and friends. It was an opportunity to enjoy some sober fun during the holiday at Valley Hope of Chandler.

The event started at 10AM where attendees played cornhole and volleyball. Afterwards everyone gathered into the lecture hall completely filling it for a speakers meeting. One of the speakers was an AA alum who is also a member of the Hope Builder Board. She shared her experience, strength and hope. We also had a Co-Anon speaker share her story from the perspective of being on the outside looking in on a loved one’s ad-diction. The speakers had two different perspectives, but shared similarities in their message of hope and ability to overcome struggles.

Our awesome kitchen staff provided lunch for everyone with all the essential comfort foods for a good old fashion BBQ cookout. Two of the patients asked if everyone could return to the lecture hall as they had been working on an original song together and wanted to perform it for everyone. They both played guitar while singing along to a song they wrote about the struggles of addiction and getting sober. You could feel and hear the passion behind every note.
We wrapped up the event with what was supposed to be a water balloon “toss” competition, but needless to say, it turned into a water balloon “fight” almost immediately. It was refreshing because of the heat of the afternoon. The children were screaming with delight and all the adults acted like their inner-child was coming out to play. Truly sobriety brings freedom in amazing ways!
